SCHOOL HOURS:
Supervision of the school grounds commences at 8.30am and ceases at 3.15pm. ABSENCES: If children are going to be away please phone the School’s Absentee Line Ph. 355 9135 before 9.00 a.m. so teachers can be notified. This is a safety check for both parents and the school as to a child's whereabouts. ACCIDENTS AND SICKNESS: If a child has an accident or is sick he or she is made as comfortable as possible before parents are contacted. This contact is made by ringing home or an emergency number that you have given. If it is not possible to find a parent or caregiver and the matter is serious the Principal may arrange the transport of the child to a doctor or hospital. CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR TELEPHONE NUMBER: Please contact the School Office if your address or telephone number is changed. This information is vital in case of emergency. CLOTHING: Please see that clothes such as jerseys and jackets are named clearly. Much as we discourage it children's clothing is still left around at times and clear identification is essential. Unclaimed clothing is placed in a charity clothing bin at the end of each term. DENTAL CLINIC: There is a clinic at the school and the nurses can be contacted during school hours – phone 355 2898. At times during the year they spend time at other schools. If unable to contact them at the clinic please ring the school for advice. O.S.C.A.R.(Out of School Care and Recreation): O.S.C.A.R. is a before-school and after-school care service which operates from Monday to Friday. Hours: Before School: 7.00am – 8.30am; After School: 3.00pm and 5.30pm. O.S.C.A.R.is open to primary children on a casual or regular basis at a reasonable cost. For further information please phone 3554918 between 2.30pm and 5.30pm. PROTECTION FROM THE SUN: Children wear sun-hats during Terms 1 and 4. Please ensure your child’s hat has a wide brim. Caps are not suitable as they do not provide adequate protection. PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE: The Public Health Nurse visits the school regularly. Teachers can refer children with minor problems. If any parent wishes to consult the nurse about their child please ring the school so an appointment can be arranged. SCHOOL DONATIONS, CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES AND SWIMMING: SCHOOL LIBRARY: This is an important school resource and is made readily available to children both in and out of class time. We have willing helpers among parents but require more to help repair and sort books. Children are notified of their requirements at the end of the year, allowing parents time to organise stationery over the holiday period. SWIMMING: Children are asked to bring their swimming gear to school every day during the swimming season. Swimming will not be taken if the weather is too cold. A note is required if children are to be excused - this should only be for health reasons. Swimming togs and towel (clearly named) should be sent in a plastic bag. WATER ONLY SCHOOL: In 2006 St Albans School adopted a ‘water only’ philosophy. This ensures our children maintain a healthy lifestyle to support their learning. |
